AARON "BOONDOCKS" McGRUDER Signs new Book at Golden Apple

On Saturday, October 11at 3PM, Aaron McGruder will sign his newly released Trade Paperback book "A Right to be Hostile" at Golden Apple (7711 Melrose) .

"A Right to Be Hostile" is a collection of four years and 800 strips of "Boondocks", one of the most influential, controversial, and scathingly funny comics ever run in a daily newspaper. The strip runs daily in over 250 newspapers around the country, including the Los Angeles Times and online at www.boondocks.net. $16.95 from Randomhouse.

Aaron McGruder has been writing and drawing "Boondocks" since 1997 when it first appeared on the Internet and in the University of Maryland's student newspaper. His outspoken and questioning views on social and political issues are voiced by Huey and Riley Freeman, two African-American inner-city kids who have moved to white suburbia (The Boondocks) with their grandfather.

Players from all over (the world) are invited to participate, but only residents of the Southwestern Region are eligible for seeding to the Nationals should they win the SWR. Divisions, Trick lists, Rules, Etc. per the National YO-YO League will be followed.

6/8 - National Yo-Yo Day

We celebrated 'National Yo-Yo Day" at high noon on Sun. June 8 in front of the Melrose store, with an attempt at a "World's Record" in a stunt involving Yo-Yos, Parking Meters and Good Humour ice cream. It's all to celebrate Donald F. Duncan Sr.'s Birthday.

6/7 - Our "Huge Surprise" is the opening of our new store inside the existing Rhino Westwood Record store.

This will be up and running by Sat. June 7 and is really exciting!

For the first time, you'll be able to find "Everything your Mom said you didn't need - under one roof". We're planning the first series of joint promotions and look forward to a lot of fun and hard work. At the same time, we've been forced to relocate our Valley store during June. It looks like we'll be moving directly across the street into a larger, newly remodeled facility. However, everything is pretty much up in the air and conditions are changing daily. As soon as we're sure of the plan, we'll let everyone know.

Because of The Memorial Day Holiday, New Comics will arrive on THURSDAY, 5/29 instead of the normal Wed. that week

Thursday, May 29, 2003 is "New Comics Day" at the Golden Apple and in consideration of The BookExpo America, the normally hectic goings on will be supplemented from 6pm to 9pm to give visiting Librarians and others a chance to "Study" Comic Fans in their "Natural Habitat".

"New Comics Day, especially the large shipment at month-end, usually brings out a large number of Fans to view, evaluate and argue the merits of new releases" said Bill Liebowitz of Golden Apple. " In addition to the regular "meeting" of our informal Comics Crew, we've scheduled a signing with the creative team from Archangel Studios who will be previewing the current issue of their popular "RED STAR" comic book and graphic novel series. This should give visiting Librarians, and others, a chance to see our products displayed in a fully functioning environment and to observe the level of consumer interest in various new products the day they are introduced.
